The fruit for The Sneak comes from our estate vineyard, J. Poppe, located at the southern end of Sonoma Valley, on the western edge of Carneros. This vineyard is situated on an east-facing slope, benefiting from cool breezes and morning sun. The 2023 vintage was characterized by an extremely cool growing season. The grapes were handpicked at full ripeness durirng the early morning hours to preserve freshness and vibrancy. Each lot was carefully overseen by Henry Cline. After destemming, the must was transferred into separate closed-top fermentation tanks for gentle flavor and tannin extraction. Fermentation began naturally, with pump-overs performed three times a day at the start of fermentation to build structure and intesnity. As the fermentation progressed, pump-overs were reduced to once per day, allowing the wine to evolve on its skins. Each lot was tasted daily, with skin contact lasting 12 to 24 days, depending on when the flavors reached their peak expression. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was pressed off the skins and transferred to barrel for aging. It spent 15 months in 40% new French oak, where it softened and developed additional layers of complexity before final blending and bottling. The Sneak isn't just a wine; it's an attitude-an ode to having a good time, breaking the rules (in a good way), and a statement to a life that is best enjoyed off the beaten path. The Sneak balances power and finesse, showcasing a wine of remarkable depth, concentration, and elegance. It reflects both the unique terroir of Carneros and the meticulous care taken throughout the growing season and winemaking process.
