BBQ Pete’s barbecue sauce is tomato-based and tangy, just right for the grill. This local sauce dates its history going back to 1972 when Pete created the first restaurant in Tacoma. Due to its wild popularity, in 1976 Pete expanded his operation to the Puyallup Fair.
Before taking over the family business, Pete’s son, Ryan, took several trips through the American Barbecue Belt, attending competitions and visiting with some of our country’s greatest pitmasters and restaurateurs. In 1992 and 2004, the Fair Sauce won the Kansas City Royal, the biggest BBQ contest in the world! Ryan still goes on annual barbecue expeditions in the South. Most of his inspiration these days is coming from the Central Texas area – around Austin and the Hill Country. Ryan’s main mentor continues to be his father, who often drops in for lunch between his world travels.
