Monopoly money becomes real for $250,000 Marysville winner at Haggen Food & Pharmacy

June 6, 2011 • Arlington, WA

Monopoly money became real – all $250,000 of it – for Lori C. of Marysville.

Lori – who asked that her last name not be used – received one of the largest prizes available in the Monopoly Collect & Win game presented by 27 Haggen Food & Pharmacy and TOP Food & Drug stores in Washington. The game started March 16 and Lori recently gained the final two tickets she needed for the $250,000 prize while shopping at Haggen Food & Pharmacy in Arlington

“I’m not normally a lucky person,” said Lori, who was born and raised in Everett. “I was blessed to be in the right place at the right time.”

Lori said she and her husband will use the prize to pay off much of their home mortgage and other debt. Since her husband has been able to work only sporadically in the construction industry the last two years, the prize is especially appreciated by them.

“There’s been a lot of extra work, stress and worry the last few years,” Lori said. “(The prize is) quite a blessing, quite a burden being lifted.”

Other prizes in the Monopoly game include another $250,000 mortgage, two $35,000 vehicles, two $25,000 cash prizes and two 2011 Ford F-150 trucks worth $25,000 apiece. Over $5 million in prizes and money-saving offers are included in the game, which continues through June 14.

“It is exciting to give away a quarter-million dollars and change someone’s life!” said Clarence J. Gabriel, president and CEO of Haggen, Inc. “This has been a fun way to show our customers how much we appreciate them.”
