Anderson Ranches Oregon Lamb

Our sheep graze on the free range pastures and rolling foothills of the Willamette Valley, where high precipitation guarantees lush green Oregon grasses year ‘round. Our grass fed lambs thrive in these open fields with fresh air and lots of room. They are left free to roam, eat when they like, and grow at their own natural rhythm.

Our grass fed lambs are processed at our own facility – Kalapooia Valley Grass Fed Processing LLC., inspired by humane principles developed by Dr. Temple Grandin. Our lambs experience less stress, and we keep our carbon footprint low, saving fuel and transportation costs.

Anderson Ranches Sustainable Practices

Besides raising healthy lambs, we employ other farming practices that complement the sheep business.

We plant grass in the fall and graze our sheep all winter through May. We then take the sheep off and let the grass grow up for a seed crop. We harvest the seed in late July and sell to farmers worldwide. We then bale up the straw to make compost. The straw is composted along with the unusable parts of the butchered grass fed lambs, and spread back on the fields as fertilizer. Absolutely nothing goes to waste.

Our hill pastures that are not farmed grow pine and fir trees. The sheep are pastured there in the summer. They eat the weeds and noxious plants that cause problems for our trees, and also keep the fire danger down. We also use our sheep to eat other crops for other farmers, to control excess growth and unwanted weeds. This cuts down on the farmers’ use of fuels and herbicides.

We are dedicated to using conservation practices for fertile soil and clean water for the healthiest and best grass fed lamb in the world.
