A delicious Banana Cream pie from Haggen and all the credit goes to me!

It’s the New Year and I decided it’s time to start learning to entertain. As a newlywed not only would I like to impress my husband, I’d also like to impress our friends and family hosting memorable (and enjoyable) dinner parties. I figure what better people to test the waters on than my own parents. So we’re having them over for my dads birthday dinner this Saturday. I still don’t know what I’m going to make for dinner but I have the BEST idea for dessert. Our very own Banana Cream Pie. It’s amazing! The truth is I suck at baking but I know that my dad LOVES banana cream pie. I went to the store yesterday looking for it and it wasn’t available so I asked the gal in the bakery if they make them this time of year. She said they don’t always have every kind of pie on hand but that she would gladly make a special order. I was thrilled and ordered it for pick up on Friday. She also let me know that they do special orders for cakes too made exactly how you want it and you only need to give them a 24 hour notice, how cool!

I’m hoping my idea turns out as well as I plan it to. My Mother-in-law has the most elaborate dinners for us and when she serves desert it’s always on these glass plates with a lit candle clipped to the side. It’s the sweetest thing. It makes desert so much fun and you feel so special enjoying it (who knew desert could get any better right!). She must have known how much we appreciate it too because she gave us a set for Christmas so I plan on pulling out all the stops I picked up from her! Plus, I figure serving a pie that I know will be delicious from Haggen will be much more enjoyable than one I’d make at home. And the pies are all made from scratch in their bakery which say’s homemade to me and I’ll get all the credit!
